In the fast-paced construction industry, the importance of training and development is undeniably important, with the UK construction industry requiring over 250,000 new workers by 2028, according to the CITB. At BBI, we believe continuous learning will play a key role in reducing the skills shortages within the industry and further driving productivity improvements.

Our CEO, Mark Worrall recently discussed the importance of Building Competency through Continuous Learning at the CITBs Skills and Training Hub at UK Construction Week. We have summarised Mark’s key takeaways from the discussion below.

Why continuous learning is key – Not only does continuous learning help to bridge the skills gap but it also develops individuals to support them in their everyday working environment.

Creating the right environment— It is key to ensure employees feel their working environment enables them to take the time to develop their competencies and skillsets. Organisations can create this environment by investing in training programmes and allocating their employees the appropriate to complete them.

Training approach – From delivering training throughout several industries, our team appreciates everyone has different training requirements. To understand these needs, it is important to assess the current knowledge and application of teams and then develop specific training programmes to eliminate any gaps.

The benefits of upskilling the construction industry’s current workers are:

Individuals:

  • Job satisfaction and motivation
  • Career advancement opportunities
  • Personal growth

Organisations:

  • Improved productivity and quality
  • Adaptability and competitiveness
  • Employee retention

Mark commented, “Continuous learning is key within the construction industry, as well as any working environment as it benefits both individuals and their organisations. Whether it’s making their working practices safer, more efficient and productive or more environmentally friendly.”

From highlighting the importance of continuous learning, we are pleased to announce that supported by the CITB Industry Impact Fund, we are working with Morrisroe to develop a skillset to improve construction productivity, that will be accessible to users on demand. This skillset is available for free through a pilot programme for the UK construction industry, targeting front-line supervisors and managers and operators.

Availability for the pilot is limited, so please contact us at performancevault@bbiservices.com to ensure you don’t miss out. We will share more information about the pilot programme, and how you get can involved.
